The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a widespread five-day rain spell across several parts of the country from June 16 to June 20, bringing relief from intense summer temperatures while raising the possibility of heavy rainfall, windstorms, and hailstorms in some areas.
According to the Met Office, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the upper regions of Pakistan on June 16 and remain active until June 20. In addition, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are likely to move into upper and central parts of the country, increasing the chances of rain and thunderstorms.
Under the influence of this weather system, various districts of Punjab and the federal capital are expected to receive scattered rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Isolated locations may also experience heavy downpours and hailstorms during the forecast period.
The PMD has indicated that Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum are among the areas likely to witness rain and gusty winds. Similar weather conditions are expected in Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, and surrounding districts.
Central Punjab cities, including Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Pakpattan, and Nankana Sahib, are also expected to receive rainfall with occasional gaps throughout the five-day period.
Southern and western districts of Punjab, including Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Kot Addu, are also included in the forecast.
Weather experts believe the rain spell could help reduce temperatures in many parts of the country and provide temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions. However, heavy rainfall and strong winds may also lead to localized urban flooding, disruptions in traffic flow, and damage to vulnerable structures in some areas.
Authorities have advised citizens to remain informed through official weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, or hailstorms. Farmers, travelers, and residents in low-lying areas are particularly encouraged to stay alert as weather conditions evolve over the coming days.
