The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has started planning a new flyover at Nishtar Road and Garden Chowrangi as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and strengthen road connectivity in one of Karachi’s busiest areas.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced Wednesday that the proposed project is estimated to cost Rs. 1 billion. The flyover is expected to address congestion at the intersection and provide motorists with a more efficient route through the area.
According to the plan, the new flyover will connect the Lyari Expressway with Garden Road and Nishtar Road. The connection is expected to improve access to Karachi’s Old City and several major commercial areas.
Nishtar Road and Garden Chowrangi are important traffic points in the city, with large numbers of vehicles using the routes to reach residential, commercial and central parts of Karachi. Heavy traffic at the intersection can lead to delays, particularly during peak hours.
The proposed infrastructure project is therefore aimed at improving the movement of vehicles and reducing pressure on existing roads. Better connectivity with the Lyari Expressway could also help motorists reach different parts of the city more conveniently.
The Rs. 1 billion estimated cost reflects the scale of the planned development and the importance of upgrading transportation infrastructure in Karachi. The city has faced persistent traffic congestion as its population, commercial activity and number of vehicles have continued to grow.
