A fire broke out in the basement of a shopping mall located on Tariq Road in Karachi on Tuesday, triggering a swift response from emergency services and raising concerns among shoppers and nearby residents.
According to initial reports, the blaze originated in the basement area of the building, which is typically used for parking and storage. Thick smoke quickly spread through parts of the structure, causing panic among visitors and shopkeepers present at the time.
Fire brigade teams and rescue officials arrived promptly at the scene to contain the situation. Multiple fire tenders were deployed to السيطرة the flames and prevent them from spreading to upper floors of the mall. Authorities also initiated evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of people inside the premises.
Rescue workers managed to evacuate several individuals, while efforts continued to fully extinguish the fire. No immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed, although some individuals were said to have experienced breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation.
Officials stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. However, incidents of this nature often raise questions about fire safety measures, emergency exits, and compliance with building regulations in busy commercial areas.
Karachi Fire Brigade and other emergency teams remained on-site to monitor the situation and carry out cooling operations to avoid any chance of re-ignition. Traffic in surrounding areas was also affected as authorities cordoned off parts of the road to facilitate rescue work.
The incident highlights the importance of proper fire safety protocols in commercial buildings, especially in densely populated urban centers like Karachi. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to identify the cause and assess any structural damage.
