The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has conducted three raids in Samundri, Khiderwala, and Mureedwala against illegal internet service providers (ISPs). The raids were carried out in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
During the raids, two individuals were apprehended and illegal ISP equipment, including an unlawful wireless point-to-point (P2P) link or antenna, was confiscated.
The PTA has stated that the raids were successful due to their ongoing monitoring, unwavering commitment, and persistent efforts to combat the problem of unlawful internet services. The PTA has also emphasized the importance of obtaining telecom services exclusively from PTA-licensed operators to prevent any abrupt service interruptions.
Impact of Illegal ISPs
Illegal ISPs can have a number of negative impacts, including:
- Reduced government revenue: Illegal ISPs often evade taxes and other government fees, which can lead to a loss of revenue for the government.
- Poor quality of service: Illegal ISPs often use outdated or substandard equipment, which can lead to poor quality of service for their customers.
- Security risks: Illegal ISPs may not have the necessary security measures in place, which can put their customers’ data at risk.
- Unfair competition: Illegal ISPs compete with licensed ISPs without having to meet the same regulatory requirements, which can create an unfair advantage for them.
What to Do if You Are Using an Illegal ISP
If you are using an illegal ISP, you should switch to a licensed ISP as soon as possible. Licensed ISPs are subject to government regulations, which help to ensure that they provide quality service and protect their customers’ data.
