Petrol Prices Likely to Rise Again in Pakistan—New Rates Expected from July 16

The Government of Pakistan is reportedly preparing to announce a significant increase in petroleum product prices, with changes likely to come into effect from July 16, 2025.

Insiders from the oil industry suggest that petrol prices may rise by Rs6.60 per litre, while the high-speed diesel (HSD) price could go up by Rs5.27 per litre. These adjustments are being reviewed as part of the country’s bi-monthly fuel pricing mechanism, heavily influenced by international oil price trends and currency exchange fluctuations.

As part of the process, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is set to submit its working paper, developed with pricing input from oil marketing companies, to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).

Once the pricing recommendations are reviewed, the final decision will be made in consultation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, based on both technical data and fiscal strategy.

An official from the energy sector explained that changes in fuel prices are dictated not only by international benchmarks but also by the government’s need to balance budgetary pressures and public affordability.

At present, petrol retails at Rs266.79/litre, and diesel stands at Rs272.98/litre. If the forecasted increase is approved, petrol could be priced at Rs273.39/litre, and diesel could surpass Rs278/litre.

This increase may intensify inflationary concerns, particularly in the transport and agriculture sectors, which rely heavily on diesel. Consumers and businesses alike are watching closely as the next review date approaches.
