Pakistani caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has stressed the need for an improved taxation system to stimulate the country’s economic growth.
In an interview with PTV news, Kakar advocated for a greater role for the private sector in wealth creation and economic growth, while the government should focus on policymaking and taxation.
He also emphasized the importance of responsible government spending of collected taxes.
During a visit to PTV headquarters on the occasion of the organization’s 59th anniversary, Kakar praised PTV’s role in promoting Pakistan’s soft image globally.
Addressing questions about Balochistan’s natural resources, the prime minister acknowledged the province’s untapped mineral wealth, including gold and copper.
He explained that following the 18th amendment to the Constitution, the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources would be shared equally between Balochistan and the federal government.
Kakar expressed optimism about the future exploitation of Balochistan’s copper and gold resources, highlighting the potential for value addition within the country and the consequent benefits for the province and the nation as a whole.
He emphasized that the timing of exploration efforts is opportune, as Pakistan was previously unprepared due to capacity limitations and a lack of financial and technical expertise.
Regarding his future plans after the caretaker period, Kakar expressed his desire to contribute in the parliament if the opportunity arises.
He acknowledged his preference for a parliamentary role compared to his executive role as prime minister.
Commenting on PTV’s contributions, Kakar commended the organization’s production of exceptional dramas, music, and informative programs.
He encouraged PTV to effectively document and present the region’s rich cultural heritage, which includes renowned figures like Khushahl Khan Khattak, Shah Latif Bhttai, Bullhay Shah, Waris Shah, and countless others.
