The Sindh government has decided to introduce more buses into Karachi’s public transport network to improve daily commuting facilities for residents. The move aims to ease travel challenges in the country’s largest city and strengthen mass transit infrastructure.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials assessed the progress of ongoing transport initiatives and explored measures to enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
Karachi, the economic hub of Karachi, faces persistent transportation challenges due to its growing population and increasing urban expansion. Adding more buses to the fleet is expected to reduce overcrowding, shorten waiting times, and improve route connectivity across key commercial and residential areas.
During the meeting, authorities also reviewed developments on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit corridor. The project is considered a major component of the city’s long-term transport strategy and is designed to offer a modern, efficient, and environmentally sustainable commuting option.
Officials discussed strategies to accelerate ongoing projects while ensuring service quality and passenger convenience remain priorities. Emphasis was placed on integrating new buses with existing routes to maximize coverage and streamline traffic flow.
The planned fleet expansion reflects the provincial government’s broader commitment to upgrading Karachi’s transport system. With improved bus services, authorities aim to provide affordable and reliable travel options for students, office workers, and daily wage earners.
Urban mobility experts have long highlighted the need for increased public transport capacity in Karachi. The addition of new buses is expected to play a vital role in easing congestion and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
As the Transport and Mass Transit Department moves forward with its expansion plans, residents are likely to see gradual improvements in accessibility and travel convenience across the city.
