The Government of Sindh has approved Rs. 8.53 billion for the repair and carpeting of roads across Karachi, aiming to address long-standing infrastructure challenges in the country’s largest city.
The decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting chaired by Syed Murad Ali Shah. The cabinet endorsed recommendations presented by Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, which had already been reviewed and cleared by the provincial finance committee.
Major Relief for Karachi’s Road Network
Karachi, Pakistan’s economic hub, has faced persistent issues with deteriorating roads, potholes, and traffic congestion. Seasonal monsoon rains often worsen the situation, damaging already fragile road surfaces and disrupting daily commutes.
The newly approved funds will be allocated for large-scale road repairs and fresh carpeting in various districts of the city. Officials say the initiative is intended to improve traffic flow, reduce vehicle maintenance costs for residents, and enhance overall urban mobility.
Focus on Infrastructure Improvement
According to officials, the investment reflects the provincial government’s commitment to upgrading Karachi’s infrastructure. Road rehabilitation projects are expected to target key arteries and heavily used routes to ensure maximum public benefit.
Infrastructure experts note that proper road maintenance not only improves daily travel but also supports economic activity. Karachi’s roads are critical for trade, logistics, and industrial transportation, connecting ports, markets, and commercial centers.
Cabinet Backing and Financial Clearance
The proposal gained full cabinet approval after recommendations from the Local Government Department were scrutinized by the finance committee. The structured review process ensures that the allocated funds are aligned with budgetary priorities and development plans.
The Rs. 8.53 billion package is seen as a significant step toward easing transportation challenges in Karachi, where millions of commuters rely on road networks every day.
