In a historic move promoting religious inclusivity, the Sindh government has announced dedicated prayer spaces for women within mosques. This landmark decision was made during a meeting led by Law and Auqaf Minister Umar Soomro, with the primary focus on registering mosques and madrassahs across the province.
The meeting saw detailed discussions on the new policy, followed by Soomro’s directive to demarcate women-only sections in 77 mosques under the Auqaf department’s jurisdiction. This initiative aims to foster a more welcoming and inclusive environment for female worshippers.
Recognizing the importance of this policy in promoting gender equality, the Auqaf department is planning a multi-lingual awareness campaign. This campaign, broadcasted in English, Urdu, Sindhi, and Gujarati, aims to reach a diverse audience across Sindh and inform them about the dedicated prayer spaces.
Meanwhile, Minister Soomro emphasized the need for a faster process to gather information on all registered and unregistered mosques, highlighting the need for accurate data management.
