Saddar Market in Karachi to Be Converted into Car-Free Pedestrian Zone

Karachi traffic authorities have announced plans to transform the bustling Saddar Market into a fully car-free pedestrian street. The initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs.

The decision came during a meeting chaired by the DIG Traffic, focusing on parking and traffic management, particularly during the upcoming Ramazan period when market activity surges. Under the new measures, vehicles will be prohibited from entering the Saddar zone between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., including for loading and unloading purposes.

Authorities believe the pedestrianization of Saddar Market will not only ease congestion but also enhance the shopping experience for visitors by creating safer and more accessible walkways. The plan is part of a broader strategy to modernize Karachi’s traffic management and promote pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.

Citizens and local businesses have been advised to adjust their logistics and travel plans accordingly. Traffic police will monitor compliance and enforce restrictions to ensure smooth implementation of the car-free policy.
