A significant development unfolded in the DHA assault case as Sudheer, the victim involved, pardoned Karachi-based businessman Salman Farooqi during proceedings at the South Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The courtroom saw a pivotal moment when Sudheer identified the accused but chose to withdraw his complaint. According to Sudheer, he was initially unaware of the court summons and only appeared in court after being informed by his legal counsel earlier that day.
During the hearing, the presiding magistrate directly questioned Sudheer about whether he was acting under duress or external influence. The victim assured the court that he was not coerced and had made a voluntary decision to forgive Salman Farooqi.
“I have no further interest in pursuing the matter,” Sudheer told the court. “I have pardoned the accused and have no objections to whatever decision the court may find appropriate.”
The magistrate duly recorded Sudheer’s statement and noted that while the victim had positively identified Salman Farooqi, he expressed no desire to continue legal proceedings.
The case stems from an incident in Karachi’s upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. Salman Farooqi was seen assaulting a young motorcyclist, reportedly Sudheer, in the presence of his sister. The shocking video of the incident circulated widely on social media, leading to a wave of condemnation and demands for accountability.
A formal complaint was registered at the Gizri Police Station by eyewitness Muhammad Saleem. The case involved charges of issuing death threats, physical assault, and public humiliation.
