Karachi Residents Upset Over Power Cuts, Stage Protest

Frustrated by repeated power outages, residents of Karachi’s Lines area took to the streets for the second day in a row. Angry protesters blocked the busy New M. A Jinnah road on Saturday, causing traffic jams and delays for commuters.

The residents reported that after a power outage on Friday, electricity was restored only briefly. It went out again at 2 am and remained off for over 12 hours, pushing them to protest.

However, a K-Electric spokesperson claimed the outages were due to unpaid bills. According to the spokesperson, residents in the Lines area owe the power company over Rs 1.6 billion.

Police eventually intervened and negotiated with the protesters, convincing them to reopen the road for traffic flow to resume.

This isn’t the first time Karachi residents have voiced their frustration with power cuts. Earlier this year, residents of Liaquatabad staged a similar protest by blocking a road after experiencing a prolonged outage in their area.

These protests highlight the challenges faced by Karachi residents due to frequent power outages.
