The proposed flyover at Karachi’s busy Disco Bakery intersection in Gulshan-i-Iqbal has been officially put on hold after local elected representatives requested the city administration to reconsider the project. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the suspension while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Munawar Chowrangi Underpass on Sunday. He said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had decided not to proceed with the flyover following concerns raised by local leadership.
According to the mayor, the request came from the Jamaat-i-Islami town chairman, who urged the city administration to review the proposed project before construction began. In response, the KMC chose to pause the initiative rather than move forward without broader consultation.
The Disco Bakery intersection is one of Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s busiest traffic junctions, connecting several major roads and serving thousands of commuters every day. The proposed flyover had been planned as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.
