A Senate committee has voiced serious concerns over the transfer of Rs. 45 million originally allocated for the development of Mazar-e-Quaid to the Ministry of Education, urging the federal government to ensure that funds designated for the country’s most prominent national monument are not redirected elsewhere.
The matter came under discussion during a meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Devolution, chaired by Senator Zamir Hussain. Committee members questioned the decision to shift the allocated funds and emphasized the importance of preserving Pakistan’s historical and cultural landmarks.
During the meeting, government officials confirmed that the Rs. 45 million earmarked for Mazar-e-Quaid in the current fiscal year had been transferred to the Ministry of Education. Officials also informed the committee that the federal government has approved a Rs. 295 million project for the renovation and upgradation of the Quaid-e-Azam Heritage Museum located within the Mazar-e-Quaid complex. The proposed renovation is part of broader efforts to modernize cultural institutions and promote the country’s historical heritage.
