The Sindh government has announced stronger measures to improve cleanliness and protect the surroundings of Mazar-e-Quaid following a high-level meeting between provincial and federal officials in Karachi.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi to discuss key issues related to Mazar-e-Quaid and the National Library of Pakistan. The meeting focused on preserving national heritage while improving coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation to ensure that one of Pakistan’s most important national monuments receives better protection and maintenance. Officials emphasized the need for joint efforts to preserve the site’s historical significance and provide visitors with a cleaner and safer environment.
A major point of discussion was the issue of garbage dumping around Mazar-e-Quaid. Authorities expressed concern over the impact of waste accumulation on the area’s appearance and pledged to take stricter action to prevent illegal dumping in the vicinity of the monument.
Participants also reviewed concerns related to encroachments, security arrangements, and routine maintenance. The meeting highlighted the importance of addressing these issues through coordinated action involving relevant government departments and local authorities.
Mazar-e-Quaid, the final resting place of Pakistan’s founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is one of the country’s most visited landmarks. Thousands of visitors, students, and tourists visit the site every year, making its upkeep a matter of national importance.
Officials stressed that preserving historical sites requires continuous monitoring, effective waste management, and improved civic administration. Better coordination between institutions is expected to help maintain the dignity and cultural value of the monument while ensuring public convenience.
