A major infrastructure project has been launched in Karachi as city authorities begin work on the Azeempura flyover in Shah Faisal Colony. The project, valued at Rs. 1.47 billion, is aimed at addressing traffic congestion and improving mobility in the eastern parts of the city.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab laid the foundation stone for the flyover on Sunday, marking the official start of construction. The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to upgrade road infrastructure and provide smoother commuting routes for residents.
According to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the Azeempura flyover is expected to be completed within 100 days. Once finished, it will significantly improve traffic flow between Shah Faisal Colony and Shahrah-i-Bhutto, a key route used by thousands of vehicles daily.
The flyover is designed to reduce travel delays for commuters coming from densely populated areas such as Shah Faisal Colony and Korangi. These localities experience heavy traffic during peak hours, particularly along routes connecting to major city arteries.
Speaking to reporters during the foundation ceremony, Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the project will provide much-needed relief to people traveling toward the airport corridor. The flyover is expected to ease traffic bottlenecks and create a more efficient route for vehicles heading to important commercial and residential zones.
Officials highlighted that improving connectivity in Karachi’s eastern corridor remains a priority for the city administration. Rapid urban growth and increasing vehicle numbers have made traffic management a pressing challenge in several districts.
The Azeempura flyover project is part of a series of development initiatives being introduced to modernize Karachi’s road network. By creating grade-separated routes, authorities aim to reduce signal-related delays and enhance the overall flow of traffic across busy intersections.
Urban development experts believe such infrastructure projects can play a crucial role in supporting Karachi’s economic activity. Efficient transportation networks help reduce travel time, improve logistics movement, and make daily commuting more convenient for residents.
With construction now underway, city officials are hopeful that the project will be completed within the announced timeline. Once operational, the flyover is expected to improve connectivity between key areas, reduce congestion, and offer smoother access to the airport corridor and surrounding districts.
