In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) apprehended a Brazilian woman at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, carrying 1.396 kilograms of cocaine concealed in plastic bags. The confiscated narcotics are valued at Rs13.9 million, according to reports by ARY News.
Concealment Techniques and Arrest Details
The woman, who arrived in Karachi on a private airline flight, had skillfully hidden the drugs in her luggage using plastic bags. ANF officials, acting on a tip-off, conducted a meticulous search of her belongings and uncovered the illicit substances.
Following the discovery, the ANF registered a case against the suspect under the Anti-Narcotics Act. Legal proceedings are currently underway to determine her network and the purpose of her travel to Pakistan.
Recent Cases of Drug Smuggling
This arrest is the latest in a series of high-profile drug trafficking busts in Pakistan. Earlier in October 2024, a passenger named Iqbal Hussain was caught at Peshawar Airport while attempting to smuggle 1.210 kilograms of ICE (crystal methamphetamine) in his luggage.
Officials revealed that the drugs were cleverly concealed in the inner layers of his bags and disguised within sweets to avoid detection. However, vigilant airport personnel successfully identified the narcotics and prevented the smuggling attempt.
Strengthened Anti-Smuggling Measures
In another operation, 2.376 kilograms of ICE were intercepted from two passengers at Peshawar Airport. Both suspects were handed over to the ANF for further investigation, with the drugs seized as evidence.
The ANF continues to intensify its crackdown on international and domestic drug trafficking, ensuring that perpetrators face strict legal consequences. Such measures highlight Pakistan’s commitment to combat the global narcotics trade.
