The Punjab Safe City Authority has introduced a groundbreaking feature that will allow every citizen’s mobile phone camera to function as a Safe City camera during emergency situations. The new development, announced on Saturday, aligns with the Chief Minister’s Safe Punjab vision, focusing on faster, smarter and more inclusive public safety mechanisms across the province.
According to the PSCA spokesperson, the initiative aims to ensure that real-time evidence from the public reaches the Safe City control room without delay. Citizens will now be able to share live video footage of serious incidents directly with authorities, helping them assess situations accurately and respond more efficiently.
The innovation comes in the form of a newly added feature within the Safe City public safety app called “Connect to PSCA.” This tool enables users to connect their phone camera to the Safe City system with a single tap during emergencies.
The process is designed to be simple and immediate. When a citizen calls the 15 emergency helpline, a Safe City officer will send them a link. Once the link is opened, the mobile phone’s live camera feed is instantly transferred to the Safe City control room. This allows officials to view the situation as it unfolds, assess the severity of the incident and dispatch appropriate help without losing precious time.
Authorities believe the feature will significantly enhance emergency response, especially in situations involving crime, accidents, fires, public disorder or any event requiring swift intervention. The ability to see real-time footage from the caller’s perspective eliminates communication gaps and enables responders to act with greater precision.
The PSCA has emphasized that the new feature is strictly for emergency use. Citizens are advised to keep their phone’s location settings turned on while making emergency calls but avoid sharing unnecessary or non-urgent video clips. The authority underscored that the purpose of the feature is to protect citizens, improve surveillance coverage and support law enforcement efforts—not to compromise privacy.
The move positions Punjab as a leader in community-integrated security technology, encouraging citizens to become active partners in public safety. As Safe City systems expand across the province, tools like “Connect to PSCA” are expected to play a crucial role in crime prevention and incident reporting.
With this new development, authorities hope to build a faster, more transparent and community-driven security framework—one where every citizen contributes to making Punjab safer.
