Major Oil and Gas Reserves Discovered in Sindh’s Dharki

Pakistan’s domestic energy sector has received a significant boost as Mari Energy Limited announced the discovery of major oil and gas reserves at its Mari Ghazij Exploration Well in Dharki, Sindh. The new find marks an important milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance self-reliance in energy production and reduce dependence on imported fuels.

The company confirmed that the exploration well has successfully yielded both crude oil and natural gas, positioning the discovery as one of the most promising developments in Pakistan’s upstream energy landscape.

According to official details, drilling at the Mari Ghazij Exploration Well began on September 12, reaching a total depth of 1,195 meters. The operation revealed substantial hydrocarbon reserves, with production estimates indicating around 305 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and approximately three million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).

Industry experts note that such figures could make a meaningful contribution to national energy output, particularly at a time when Pakistan is grappling with rising import bills and fluctuating global fuel prices.

Fahim Haider, Managing Director of Mari Energy Limited, confirmed that this is the company’s second major oil discovery in the Gharij area. He emphasized that the success reflects the company’s sustained focus on indigenous exploration and production, showcasing Pakistan’s untapped potential in hydrocarbon development.

“This discovery reaffirms our commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s energy independence. Mari Energy continues to demonstrate technical excellence and a long-term vision for sustainable growth through local resource development,” Haider stated.

Mari Energy Limited currently maintains a commanding 30% share of Pakistan’s gas production, making it the country’s largest natural gas producer. The latest find further consolidates its role as a leader in energy innovation and exploration.

Experts believe that the Dharki discovery will not only boost local production capacity but also encourage new investments in Pakistan’s exploration sector. It comes at a crucial time when the government is seeking to revive energy confidence through public-private partnerships and foreign collaborations.

This strategic discovery at Mari Field highlights the immense potential of Sindh’s energy reserves and marks another step forward in Pakistan’s pursuit of energy security and long-term sustainability.
