Karachi Experiences Rainy Relief, More Showers Expected Nationwide

Karachi witnessed a welcome bout of moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday night, breaking the prolonged dry spell in the city. Neighborhoods such as Malir, Landhi, Korangi, and Quaidabad reported consistent rainfall, while Shah Faisal Colony and adjacent areas also saw showers.

Other regions like SITE Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Qayyumabad, and Akhtar Colony experienced more intense rain coupled with strong winds. Reports from Surjani Town, North Karachi, and Nazimabad confirmed widespread precipitation across the city.

PMD Predicts Continuation of Rain in Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that this rain system could persist over the next 24 hours, extending rainfall across Karachi and other districts in Sindh.

NDMA Issues Fresh Monsoon Alert

As monsoon season gains momentum, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has sounded a nationwide alert from July 6 to 10, urging residents to prepare for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and the potential for flash floods.

Rain Forecast by Region

  • Punjab: From Lahore to Rawalpindi and Sargodha, the province will see widespread rain. Southern Punjab will experience lower intensity showers.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Strong thunderstorms are expected in areas like Abbottabad, Mansehra, Swat, and Buner.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK: Evening and night rains may trigger flash floods and landslides in mountainous zones.
  • Sindh: Karachi, Thatta, Hyderabad, and Larkana may face heavy rain. NDMA warns of possible urban flooding.
  • Balochistan: Showers in Quetta, Zhob, and Dera Bugti may lead to waterlogging and wind-related infrastructure risks.

Public Urged to Exercise Caution

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has advised local authorities and citizens to prepare for road closures, disrupted communications, and possible power outages. People living in flood-prone or hilly areas should remain vigilant and follow safety advisories.
