Sindh Prohibits Teachers from Private Tutoring During Official Hours

Strict Action Against Dual Commitments

In a significant move to prioritize education in Sindh, the Secretary of College Education, Asif Akram, has imposed a ban on government college teachers engaging in private tutoring or working at coaching centers during official working hours.

The notice, sent to all college principals, raises concerns about some educators prioritizing private tutoring over their official teaching duties. This practice has been blamed for a decline in student attendance and disruptions in the academic atmosphere at government colleges.

Ethics and Professionalism Highlighted

The directive emphasizes that using government time for personal gain is both unethical and unprofessional. Teachers, entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing the next generation, must focus solely on their official duties during working hours.

Accountability Measures for Principals and Teachers

College principals have been instructed to maintain strict oversight of teacher attendance and ensure that classes are conducted according to schedule. Teachers caught violating this directive will face disciplinary action under the Sindh Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 1973. Additionally, principals who fail to enforce these guidelines will also be held accountable.

Focus on Improving the Academic Environment

This initiative reflects a broader effort to enhance the quality of education in Sindh’s government colleges. By addressing the issue of divided commitments, the education department aims to restore trust in public institutions and ensure that students receive the attention they deserve.
