Saudi Arabia’s Online Taxi Services Boost Driver Revenue by SAR 1.1 Billion in Nine Months

Online Taxi Services Generate SAR 1.1 Billion for Saudi Drivers in 2024

In the first nine months of 2024, Saudi Arabia’s online taxi services have significantly boosted driver earnings, generating nearly SAR 1.1 billion for local Saudi drivers. According to a report by the Transport General Authority (TGA), this robust growth reflects a thriving demand for convenient and accessible transportation across the Kingdom.

The report highlights that over 51.8 million trips were made across Saudi Arabia, showcasing a 12% increase in trip numbers compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, the third quarter alone witnessed a 41% growth from the previous quarter, reflecting the rising demand for app-based transport options as people increasingly prefer these services for their reliability and ease of use.

Riyadh Takes the Lead in App-Based Transportation Demand

According to TGA, Riyadh holds the top spot in terms of trip volume, accounting for 39% of total journeys in the Kingdom. Makkah follows with a 25% share, and the Eastern Province ranks third with 16%. This regional distribution indicates a particularly high demand in urban areas where mobility and ease of transport are priorities for residents.

Presently, there are 46 authorized apps operating within Saudi Arabia’s passenger transport sector, each providing a secure and dependable travel experience. These apps are a vital component of Saudi Arabia’s evolving transportation landscape, helping alleviate traffic congestion and shorten commute times while offering flexible and accessible work opportunities for Saudi nationals.

Supporting Saudi Youth in Passenger Transport Services

In light of this growing market, the TGA has encouraged Saudi youth to seize the employment and earning opportunities in passenger transport services. They are advised to seek financial support through the Human Resources Development Fund (HADAF), which offers assistance to those looking to join the sector full-time. These apps offer flexible work arrangements, enabling individuals to manage their schedules effectively and potentially earn substantial income, contributing to both personal growth and the broader economy.
