Sindh Police Issues Warning Over SIM, Fingerprint and CNIC Misuse Amid Rising Cybercrime

Authorities in Pakistan have issued a fresh public advisory urging citizens to safeguard their personal data amid increasing concerns over cybercrime and identity misuse.

Sindh Police warned the public against sharing sensitive personal information such as SIM cards, fingerprints, and CNIC details with unauthorized individuals.

The advisory highlights growing risks associated with identity theft, fraudulent SIM registration, and misuse of biometric data, which can be exploited for illegal financial activities or digital scams.

Officials emphasized that citizens should remain cautious when providing personal information, particularly in situations involving unknown callers, informal agents, or unverified service providers.

In recent years, Pakistan has seen a rise in cyber-related crimes, including mobile SIM fraud, impersonation cases, and data breaches. Authorities believe that misuse of personal identification data is one of the key contributors to these incidents.

Sindh Police further advised citizens to avoid sharing fingerprints or CNIC copies unless absolutely necessary and only with trusted, verified institutions. They also urged people to regularly monitor their mobile SIM usage and report any unauthorized activity immediately.

Cybersecurity experts note that biometric and identity data, once compromised, can be difficult to recover or secure. As digital services expand across banking, telecom, and government sectors, protecting personal information has become increasingly important.

The advisory aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen digital security awareness and reduce vulnerabilities linked to identity-based fraud. Law enforcement agencies continue to encourage the public to adopt safer digital practices and verify the legitimacy of any organization requesting sensitive data.

Authorities also reminded citizens that legal mobile SIM registration and biometric verification processes should only be conducted through authorized telecom centers and official channels.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, officials stress that public awareness plays a critical role in preventing misuse of personal data and reducing the overall risk of digital fraud in Pakistan.
