Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is preparing to expand its flight operations to the United Kingdom after securing an opportunity to increase services at one of the world’s busiest airports.
The expansion follows the return of 14 weekly landing and takeoff slots at London Heathrow Airport by Turkish Airlines for the Winter 2026 schedule, which will take effect from October 25, 2026.
The newly available slots are expected to enable PIA to increase direct flights between London Heathrow and four major Pakistani cities: Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot. The additional capacity is likely to improve travel options for passengers while strengthening air connectivity between Pakistan and the UK.
The expansion comes at a time when demand for direct flights between the two countries continues to grow, particularly among business travelers, overseas Pakistanis, students, and tourists. Increasing flight frequencies is expected to provide greater flexibility, reduce travel disruptions, and improve overall passenger convenience.
London Heathrow remains one of the most important international gateways for Pakistan, serving thousands of travelers every week. Additional flight slots at the airport are highly valuable due to limited availability and strong global demand from international airlines.
For PIA, expanding operations at Heathrow represents another important step in rebuilding and strengthening its international route network. Increased frequencies on key UK routes could also enhance the airline’s competitiveness while generating additional revenue from one of its most important overseas markets.
The planned services will connect Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot directly with London, reducing travel time for passengers and offering more scheduling options. The move is also expected to benefit the large Pakistani diaspora living across the United Kingdom, many of whom regularly travel between the two countries.
Industry observers believe the additional Heathrow slots could further strengthen trade, tourism, and business links between Pakistan and the UK by improving air connectivity. Enhanced flight schedules may also support cargo transportation, facilitating the movement of exports and commercial goods.
While operational planning and regulatory approvals will determine the final flight schedule, the availability of additional Heathrow slots provides PIA with an opportunity to significantly expand its presence in one of its most strategic international markets.
The Winter 2026 schedule, beginning on October 25, is expected to mark an important milestone for PIA as the national carrier seeks to improve international connectivity and offer more direct travel options for passengers flying between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
