The Government of Sindh has decided to restructure the execution plan for a key segment of the Karachi Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project after terminating the existing construction contract for delays.
According to Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the contract for the Mosamiyat to Numaish section has been cancelled due to repeated failure by the contractor to meet project deadlines. Despite multiple warnings, the pace of work remained below expectations, prompting the government to take corrective action.
The authorities now plan to re-award the construction work on an emergency basis, splitting it among multiple contractors. This approach is intended to accelerate progress and reduce bottlenecks that have slowed down development of the mass transit project in Karachi.
Officials stated that the decision aims to ensure faster execution while maintaining accountability in public infrastructure projects. By dividing the remaining work among several contractors, the government expects improved efficiency and better adherence to timelines.
