NAB Karachi Summons Education Officials in Sindh Illegal Appointments Investigation

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has summoned responsible officials of Sindh’s School Education Department in connection with an investigation into alleged illegal appointments made between 1989 and 2020.

The accountability bureau has asked the officials to appear on October 20 and provide details of appointments made during the 31-year period. The inquiry focuses on obtaining complete records and examining the circumstances surrounding the reported recruitment irregularities.

According to a letter issued by NAB, the investigation follows directives from the Sindh High Court’s Larkana bench. The letter also refers to a joint investigation team meeting held on June 15, 2026, as part of the proceedings.

The Sindh High Court’s Larkana bench had issued an order on June 30, 2026, which is cited in the correspondence related to the investigation. The matter has drawn attention to the need for proper documentation and accountability in public-sector recruitment.

NAB stated in its letter that the School Education Department had not provided the complete records required for the investigation since 2020, despite repeated letters and reminders. The bureau has now sought the relevant information from the responsible officers.

The requested records are expected to help investigators examine appointments made over several decades and determine whether recruitment procedures were followed. Complete employment records can be important in verifying appointment orders, recruitment approvals, eligibility requirements, and compliance with applicable rules.

The period under scrutiny, from 1989 to 2020, covers multiple decades of recruitment within Sindh’s education system. Reviewing appointments across such a long period may require the department to compile information from different offices and administrative records.

The investigation also highlights the importance of maintaining accurate personnel files and responding to requests from judicial and accountability authorities. Public departments are expected to preserve official records and provide relevant information when required under applicable procedures.

For the education sector, transparent recruitment practices are essential to maintaining public confidence in government institutions. Clear documentation helps ensure that appointments are made according to established rules and that any suspected irregularities can be examined fairly.

NAB’s decision to summon the officials marks a further step in seeking information for the inquiry. Their appearance and the submission of the requested records may assist investigators in clarifying the facts and determining whether additional action is necessary.

However, the existence of an investigation does not establish that every appointment under review was illegal or that any particular official is guilty of wrongdoing. The allegations must be assessed on the available evidence, and responsibility can only be determined through the relevant legal and investigative processes.

The case remains focused on alleged irregular appointments and the reported failure to provide complete records requested by NAB. Further developments will depend on the information submitted by the department and the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The summons underscores the importance of cooperation between government departments, accountability bodies, and the courts in addressing questions about public-sector recruitment. Ensuring that records are available and procedures are followed will be central to resolving the matter.
