A recently reopened section of the Red Line project on University Road in Karachi has come under criticism after parts of the road reportedly began deteriorating only days after traffic was restored.
The affected stretch, located between Safari Park and Nipa Chowrangi, was reopened to commuters following ongoing construction work linked to the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project. However, residents and daily commuters soon noticed visible depressions and uneven patches on the road surface, sparking concerns over construction quality and long-term durability.
According to local residents, multiple sections of the road developed sinkage measuring approximately four to six inches. The issue has raised fresh questions about the standards of repair and infrastructure development being carried out under the major transport project.
The Red Line project is one of Karachi’s key public transport initiatives aimed at improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion across the city. University Road remains one of the busiest routes in Karachi, connecting several educational institutions, commercial areas, and residential neighborhoods.
Citizens expressed frustration over recurring construction-related disruptions and the condition of roads after completion of work. Many commuters complained that the damaged surface has once again slowed traffic flow and increased difficulties for motorists traveling through the corridor.
