Karachi’s Rs. 2 Billion Munawar Chowrangi Underpass Project Gets New Completion Deadline

The long-delayed Munawar Chowrangi Underpass project in Karachi has received fresh momentum after the Sindh government released full funding for its completion, setting a revised deadline of June 30 for the infrastructure scheme.

The project, which is estimated to cost around Rs. 2 billion, has faced multiple delays over time due to funding and administrative challenges. However, authorities are now pushing to expedite construction work to ensure the underpass is opened for traffic within the newly announced timeline.

Murtaza Wahab confirmed that the required funds have been fully released to the Karachi Development Authority. This step is expected to accelerate construction activity and help complete the project without further interruptions.

The underpass is considered an important infrastructure development for improving traffic flow in one of Karachi’s busiest corridors. Once completed, it is expected to reduce congestion, shorten travel times, and improve road connectivity for daily commuters in the surrounding areas.

City planners say the project is part of a broader effort to upgrade urban infrastructure in Karachi, where rapid population growth and increasing vehicle density have placed significant pressure on existing road networks.

Officials believe timely completion of the Munawar Chowrangi Underpass will provide long-term relief to commuters and contribute to improved traffic management in the area. The project is also expected to support smoother access between residential and commercial zones.

The renewed focus on completing delayed infrastructure schemes reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to address Karachi’s long-standing urban transport challenges through targeted development projects and improved coordination between government departments.

Construction teams are now expected to work on an accelerated schedule as the June 30 deadline approaches, with authorities closely monitoring progress to ensure timely completion.
