Murtaza Wahab has directed city authorities to establish beautification zones and green belts along Karachi’s major roads as part of ongoing infrastructure and urban development projects.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Engineering Department held in Karachi, where officials reviewed progress on multiple development schemes currently underway across the city.
During the briefing, the Director General of Technical Services informed the mayor about various road construction and improvement projects being carried out in different areas. Murtaza Wahab instructed all concerned departments to ensure that beautification work becomes a mandatory part of every major road development initiative.
According to city officials, the goal is not only to improve Karachi’s road infrastructure but also to enhance the city’s overall appearance and urban environment. The planned beautification measures are expected to include green belts, landscaping, tree plantation, and improved roadside maintenance.
Authorities believe that integrating beautification into infrastructure projects can help create a cleaner and more visually appealing environment for residents and visitors. Urban planners have long emphasized the need for Karachi to focus on sustainable development and greener public spaces alongside road expansion and repair work.
The initiative comes as Karachi continues to face challenges related to traffic congestion, aging infrastructure, and environmental concerns. Officials say that modernizing roads while improving aesthetics can contribute to a better urban experience and support long-term city planning goals.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab reportedly stressed during the meeting that development projects should not be limited to construction work alone. Instead, they should also reflect efforts to improve the quality of life and civic environment across Pakistan’s largest city.
Citizens and urban development experts have welcomed the idea of adding green spaces and beautification features to road projects, noting that such measures can improve environmental conditions and make public spaces more attractive.
Further details regarding the locations and timelines for the beautification zones are expected to be announced by city authorities in the coming weeks.
