Severe Cold Wave Continues Across Karachi

A severe cold wave continued to grip Karachi and other parts of Sindh for the third consecutive day, with temperatures dropping further across the province, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Karachi experienced another sharp dip in temperature on Saturday morning. The minimum temperature at the Jinnah Terminal airport weather station fell to 6.5 degrees Celsius, marking one of the coldest mornings of the season.

PMD officials said the ongoing cold spell is the result of continental air prevailing over the region, causing unusually low temperatures for coastal areas such as Karachi.

Several neighborhoods across the city recorded single-digit temperatures, highlighting the intensity of the cold wave. Bin Qasim Town reported a low of 8.6°C, while Gulistan-e-Johar recorded 8.7°C.

Other areas including Sharea Faisal and Mauripur saw temperatures drop to 9.5°C, causing residents to experience harsh early morning conditions.

Meteorologists noted that clear skies and dry weather conditions have contributed to further nighttime cooling, particularly in open and suburban areas of the city.

The cold wave has also affected other parts of Sindh, with inland districts experiencing chilly mornings and cold winds, especially during early and late hours.

Health experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures, particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, as prolonged exposure to cold temperatures may increase health risks.

The PMD is expected to continue monitoring the situation and will issue updates if weather conditions change in the coming days.
