According to Saudi officials, hundreds of unauthorized pilgrims are being identified daily through this drone-led initiative. Recently, authorities detained four Indonesian citizens suspected of promoting counterfeit Hajj packages. Further investigation led to the arrest of 14 more individuals from the same residence, all of whom lacked proper documentation.
This operation demonstrates the kingdom’s commitment to ensuring that only verified pilgrims with legitimate Hajj credentials are permitted to enter the holy sites.

In a parallel effort to support legal pilgrims, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has taken significant steps to modernize arrival procedures at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Medina.
The deployment of 20 biometric e-gates has dramatically improved the immigration experience. Each gate, powered by AI and facial recognition, enables faster screening for travelers. In addition, over 30 advanced passport scanners have been installed to ensure accurate identity verification.
Four fingerprint scanning units are now active, and SDAIA support teams remain on-site to manage technical needs and resolve system errors in real time.
This blend of stringent security and high-end service ensures that legitimate pilgrims can focus on their spiritual journey, free from the disruptions caused by unauthorized attempts to access the Hajj sites.
