Karachi Traffic Police has issued a traffic diversion plan following the closure of the Sir Syed Flyover toward Hasan Square due to ongoing development work in the area.
The closure began on Wednesday night and will remain in effect until the construction and development work is completed, according to the traffic advisory issued for motorists.
The closure is expected to affect commuters travelling toward Hasan Square, particularly those using the route from NIPA. Karachi Traffic Police has advised motorists to use designated alternative routes to maintain smoother traffic movement during the closure.
Under the diversion plan, motorists travelling from NIPA toward Hasan Square can turn left from NIPA and continue through Rashid Minhas Road. This route will provide an alternative connection for traffic affected by the flyover closure.
Another option is available for motorists approaching the area through Millennium Mall. Drivers can turn right from Millennium Mall and proceed via Stadium Road to continue their journey toward the affected area.
The traffic police have advised motorists to follow the designated diversions and cooperate with traffic officials deployed along the affected routes. The alternative routes are intended to distribute traffic and reduce congestion around the closed section.
The Sir Syed Flyover is an important part of Karachi’s road network, connecting areas around NIPA, Hasan Square and other major routes. Its temporary closure is therefore expected to influence daily commuting patterns in the surrounding areas.
Motorists travelling during peak hours may need to allow additional time for their journeys and remain alert for changes in traffic conditions. Traffic volume can vary depending on the time of day, particularly along Rashid Minhas Road and Stadium Road.
The closure is linked to development work, and the traffic restriction will continue until the work is completed. The duration of the closure may therefore depend on the progress of construction activities at the site.
Karachi Traffic Police has issued the diversion arrangements to help motorists plan their routes in advance. Drivers unfamiliar with the affected area are advised to follow traffic signs and instructions from traffic personnel while using the alternative roads.
For commuters travelling from NIPA toward Hasan Square, the two main alternatives highlighted in the advisory are Rashid Minhas Road through a left turn from NIPA and Stadium Road after turning right from Millennium Mall.
The temporary arrangement is aimed at maintaining traffic flow while development work continues at the Sir Syed Flyover. Motorists using the affected corridor should check traffic updates before travelling and allow extra time where necessary.
The closure and diversion plan will remain relevant until authorities announce that the flyover route has reopened. Commuters are advised to follow official traffic instructions throughout the period of the closure.
