Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has launched several development projects in the SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area, with the Sindh government allocating Rs. 700 million for infrastructure and related improvements.
The projects were inaugurated during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by representatives of the SITE-Superhighway Association of Industry, elected councillors, government officials and industrialists.
Wahab said the development schemes are aimed at improving infrastructure and basic facilities in Karachi’s industrial zones while creating better conditions for businesses and supporting employment opportunities.
The mayor announced that the projects in the SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area are scheduled to be completed by December 15. The timeline reflects the administration’s effort to accelerate development work in one of Karachi’s important industrial areas.
According to Wahab, the Sindh government has allocated more than Rs. 9.25 billion for development projects across seven industrial zones in Karachi. The funds have been transferred to the respective industrial areas for the implementation of development schemes.
The SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area has received Rs. 700 million from the overall allocation. The funding is expected to be used for projects identified as priorities for the industrial community.
Wahab said the government has given industrialists the authority to identify and prioritize development schemes in their respective areas. Under this arrangement, business stakeholders can determine which infrastructure requirements need immediate attention.
The mayor described the approach as a unique development model in which the government provides financial resources while industrial stakeholders help decide how the funds should be prioritized.
The arrangement could allow development work to focus more directly on the needs of businesses operating within industrial zones. Industrialists are generally familiar with the infrastructure challenges that affect daily commercial and manufacturing activities in their areas.
Better roads, drainage, lighting and other basic facilities can play an important role in supporting industrial activity. Improvements in these areas can also help businesses operate more efficiently and provide a more suitable environment for workers.
Karachi’s industrial zones are an important part of the city’s economy, providing space for manufacturing, trade and other commercial activities. Infrastructure improvements in these areas can therefore have an impact beyond individual industrial estates.
The Rs. 9.25 billion allocation across seven industrial zones represents a broader development push by the Sindh government. The distribution of funds allows individual industrial areas to undertake projects based on their specific infrastructure requirements.

Speaking to the media, Wahab emphasized that improved infrastructure and basic services are important for sustaining business activity and employment in Karachi’s industrial areas.
The projects will now move into the implementation phase, with December 15 set as the target for completion of the schemes announced for the SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area.
The development is being viewed as part of wider efforts to improve Karachi’s industrial infrastructure and create better conditions for businesses, investors and workers across the city’s major industrial zones.
