The Sindh government has completed the transfer of all remaining government dispensaries and primary healthcare facilities to the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative Sindh, marking the final phase of a healthcare transition that has been underway for nearly 20 years.
With the latest handover, the management and operation of government dispensaries and other primary healthcare centers across the province will now be overseen by PPHI Sindh. The organization is a government-funded, not-for-profit entity that has been delivering healthcare services in rural and underserved areas since 2007.
The move is aimed at strengthening the delivery of primary healthcare by placing all frontline medical facilities under a single management framework. Officials believe the unified system will improve coordination, streamline operations, and enhance access to essential healthcare services for communities across Sindh.
PPHI Sindh has built an extensive network of health facilities over the years, focusing on areas where access to medical services has traditionally been limited. The organization provides a range of primary healthcare services, including maternal and child healthcare, immunization support, outpatient treatment, preventive care, and basic diagnostic facilities.
By transferring the remaining government dispensaries to PPHI Sindh, the provincial government hopes to improve service delivery, ensure better resource management, and maintain consistent healthcare standards across the province. The transition is also expected to support more efficient staffing, equipment management, and patient care at primary healthcare centers.
Primary healthcare facilities play a vital role in Pakistan’s healthcare system, serving as the first point of contact for millions of residents seeking medical treatment. Strengthening these facilities is considered essential for reducing pressure on secondary and tertiary hospitals while improving healthcare accessibility in both rural and urban communities.
The completion of the transfer represents a significant administrative milestone for Sindh’s public health sector. With all government dispensaries now operating under PPHI Sindh’s management, the organization will be responsible for expanding and maintaining primary healthcare services across the province.
The provincial government expects the consolidated management model to contribute to more efficient healthcare delivery, improved patient outcomes, and greater access to quality medical services, particularly for residents living in remote and underserved regions of Sindh.
