Round-the-Clock Water Services Introduced
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has rolled out significant measures to help Karachiites facing water shortages. Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, the CEO of KW&SB, has announced the availability of subsidized water tankers through a 24/7 window service at all official hydrants, ensuring uninterrupted access for citizens.
Increased Tanker Quota for the Public
To meet rising demand, the Hydrants Cell has increased the quota for public water tankers, prioritizing residential areas over commercial needs. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to ensure fair access to water during ongoing infrastructure repairs.
Temporary Suspension of Commercial Services
For three days, commercial tanker operations have been suspended to focus entirely on residential water supply. This temporary measure has been implemented along University Road and other affected areas to help residents during critical repair work.
Mandatory E-Slips for Tanker Bookings
All citizens availing water tankers must now secure computerized e-slips. This system is designed to maintain transparency and prevent any unauthorized or overcharged services. KW&SB has encouraged citizens to report any violations or refusal to issue e-slips immediately.
Karachi’s Recurring Water Supply Woes
These proactive measures come in response to the city’s recurring water crisis. Earlier this month, a crucial 84-inch pipeline ruptured due to construction work on the Red Line project, causing a shortfall of over 2.5 billion gallons. Despite repairs, the pipeline leaked again, intensifying water shortages across many neighborhoods.
With enhanced services and a focus on fairness, the KW&SB aims to restore confidence and provide much-needed relief to Karachi’s residents.
