Former Pakistani cricket star Basit Ali has sparked a lively debate about the future of Pakistan’s national cricket team. Ali believes now is the perfect time for a dramatic leadership change – handing the captaincy to star wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan.
Speaking on the popular cricket show ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’, Ali urged the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, to make a decisive move. “Rizwan’s leadership could be the key to lifting Pakistan’s performance,” Ali asserted. “Mr. Chairman, this is your chance to take a bold step.”
Ali’s comments come after Pakistan’s disappointing recent series against New Zealand, commanded by left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi. Ali believes the captaincy burden may have affected Afridi’s bowling and that the team’s 4-1 defeat highlights the need for a change before the World Cup.
However, former cricketer Kamran Akmal disagrees, arguing that Afridi needs more time to develop his leadership skills. He proposes giving Afridi at least one or two years to prove his worth as captain.
