An Urgent Response to Disinformation Threats
Recognizing the growing menace of fake news targeting state institutions, the federal government has approved Rs. 2 billion to strengthen its defense against disinformation. This decision was finalized during a high-level Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Allocation and Strategic Goals
The approved budget includes:

ISPR’s Enhanced Role in Countering Misinformation
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has been designated as the central authority to address disinformation. Army Chief General Asim Munir has reiterated the critical need to tackle propaganda that undermines national unity and trust in state institutions. The allocated funds will enable ISPR to adopt cutting-edge tools and techniques to counter fake news more effectively.
Broader Implications for National Security
This move reflects the government’s commitment to protecting state institutions and maintaining public trust. By addressing the root causes of fake news and strengthening ISPR’s capabilities, the initiative aims to safeguard the nation’s socio-political stability against evolving threats.
